Once in a while, we found ourselves listening to one song over and over. We found ourselves wandering in our minds and letting the music guide us. It is fantastic to connect to that song, and we can’t stop listening to it. Better yet, we get inspired by it. It gives us hope, and it gives us reason to continue living our life with a better future.

I went a little deep there, and to be honest with you, that’s how I feel right now while listening to this music. I decided to listen to the songs while I’m writing. That way, I can be as pure as possible. Video game music is so unique because it creates nostalgia. It reminds us of a time when we were not worried about a lot of stuff we hate today. I got the selection that brought me many memories and gets me inspired. Here are my top 5 most profound video game songs.

1) Pokémon – Emotion (An Unwavering Heart)

Here is, in my opinion the saddest song of the Pokémon video game series. The simplicity of the melody and the chord progression makes this combination a beautiful one. It is not just beautiful but also inspiring. I found this song while listening to relaxing Pokémon music. Something I do very often with different games. This is the type of music I can repeatedly listen to over and over and never get tired of it. Here is a cover I created thanks to a special petition someone asked for on my Patreon.

2) Hollow Knight – Dirtmouth

Soft, haunting, and beautiful at the same time. A mix of everything. Mostly desperation and liberation. The combination of a piano and a string instrument is unique. Maybe is a cello? Not sure, but it is beautiful. I would say that it makes you feel like you are in a dream. A dream that you want to escape but somehow makes you feel liberated. That’s what I get from listening to this.

I have never played this game, and I have a friend that loves it. I was fortunate enough to play his arrangement for the guitar quartet. He did a compilation of 4 songs and man; they were terrific. All the pieces have their unique story.

3) Kingdom Heart – Dearly Beloved

The day I found this song, I didn’t believe how many beautiful video game soundtracks existed. That’s the beauty of knowing more people that have the same interests as you. Love video game music. Someone recommended me this song on Patreon, and man, I’m glad it happened. I could listen to this for hours. I would be mesmerized by the simplicity of the piano and the singing of the string orchestra. Every instrument has its meaning in this tune. Everything is in the right place, the right place to make you think about how beautiful life can be. To think how much I love my life as well as the people that are around me. Thank you, Yoko Shimormura. Thank you for this masterpiece.

4) Donkey Kong – Ambience

How do I begin to talk about this tune? Donkey Kong Ambience is a masterpiece, and how ahead of its time it was. David Wise made the impossible with this track. It made justice to a water level in a universe of two monkeys avoiding sharks. How beautiful it is that I can listen to this and enjoy it in the original version. I don’t need to explain how this song makes me feel. Close your eyes and let the music guide you.

5) The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time Title Theme

Ocarina of time has a special place in my heart. The whole soundtrack brings so much nostalgia. Being able to watch my brother play was one of my favorite things. At that time, we didn’t know English, and every time we found a secret, it was an incredible feeling. The game has many fabulous tunes. So, why did I choose this one? Well, I’m going to go a little deeper. This song is the intro of this game, and it is the first take you are going to receive from the game. But, there was something magical about this theme playing while Link was freely running with the horse. It was like nothing happened at all, but that was out of reality. The chord selection and the constant repetition make it feel like you are dreaming.  I love to say the word “dreaming.” You can get lost in the imagination. I would say that it can even heal you. Koji Kondo… Maestro de maestros! Thank you!
